Description

  • BASIC FUNCTION: This engineer will be responsible for the design and specification of continuous process controls and instrumentation for a chemical processing facility.  Responsibilities also include the ability to work closely with other engineers and project managers to complete project assignments and other duties as assigned.   This engineer applies standard practices, techniques, and procedures in specific situations carrying out a sequence of related technical tasks.  Including but not limited to developing design solutions and making technical recommendations, project work, project management, maintenance support, participate and lead safety reviews, and administrative functions required to support these activities.  May be asked to lead large capital projects.
 
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A thorough knowledge and expertise of process instrumentation and controls, including familiarity with pressure, temperature, level, and flow measurement technology.   Knowledge and familiarity with Instrument Society of America (ISA) standards.   Experience in distributed control systems and/or programmable logic controllers.  Specifically programming of Fisher Provox/Provue systems and Modicon PLCs.   A thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) as applied to wiring practices within classified and non-classified areas.   Ability to specify process instrumentation.   Ability to perform engineering calculations including control valve sizing calculations, relief valve capacity calculations, and flow orifice calculations.   Computer proficiency and the ability to utilize engineering software to perform engineering calculations and update drawings and schematics in CAD.   Develop and adhere to budgets for projects.   Provide tracking information to project management for backlog reports (example: % Complete on tasks).   Provide leadership, both technical and team oriented for the engineering team members.   Work to improve the long-term growth of the company through business development, maintaining and improving profitability, and improvements in engineering efficiency.   Support and provide leadership in the development and implementation/adherence of company Engineering policies, procedures and standards.

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in engineering with a minimum of five years experience in the design and engineering of instrument and control systems in oil refinery or chemical manufacturing facilities.
 
  • REASONING ABILITY: Exercise judgement on details of work and make selection and adaptation of alternatives. Assist supervision in the development and coordination of various technical assignments.  Independently plans and performs assignments of high technical complexity.

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Receives minimal technical direction requiring very limited consultation.  May be assigned the responsibility for directing the technical activities of one or more engineers.  May also be assigned a limited number of technicians.  Will be expected to train and mentor other engineers.  Will need to review work of other engineers.  Will be expected to lead large and small projects as well as manage contractors.   The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
